Taking medications to fight gout
In treating gout, a lot of people immediately turn to natural remedies such as supplements and herbs in hopes of saving money. Sometimes, however, one has to begin taking a look at medications that can help bring about gout relief; only physicians can prescribe them to you. Such medications include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs, corticosteroids, and colchicine. These medications work to block the inflammation in the body, relieving it within 48 hours of taking the medicines. Your physician may prescribe these medicines to you to give you quick gout relief, but keep in mind that they are not responsible for controlling and reducing the amount of uric acid you have in your body, and simply work to reduce the symptoms and the swelling. You generally need to take these medicines until the swelling goes away, after which you can begin taking medicines that can control uric acid levels in the body.
